ABOUT THE RECIPE

In Morocco, Japanese sweet potatoes are a popular vegetable that are used in salads, tagines, and soups.

In this recipe, the dada (chef) will show you one of the most popular savory sweet potato salads, called sweet potatoes with chermoula, or "batata hlouwa mcharmela" in Arabic. In most cultures, cooked side-dishes are called appetizers or dips, but in Morocco, these dishes are referred to as "salads."

This warm salad is very easy to make and requires only a few ingredients. It is made with tender steamed sweet potatoes that are tossed in a flavorful chermoula - the famous Moroccan marinade made out of garlic, spices, lemons and fresh herbs. You can also use this chermoula to flavor other steamed vegetables including potatoes, zucchini, carrots, cauliflower, etc...
